Ma’amtagila Tribe Society
The Ma’a̲mtagila Tribe Society was founded as a registered nonprofit under the BC Societies Act in 2021. Our Reason for Being is to provide opportunities for the Ma’amtagila people to celebrate our culture, territory, and community.
As a dispersed and displaced community, we have many challenges. Displacement may have scattered our people, but our connections to territory and to each other remain. The Ma’a̲mtagila continue to harvest on our lands, practise our culture, and to Potlatch.
The MTS aims to bring families together, open pathways back to our lands, and make room for every Ma’amtagila person who wants to take part. In short, we exist to serve the Ma’amtagila.
Our Board of Directors
Our Board is made up entirely of Ma’amtagila community members. Our Board of Directors oversees the Ma’amtagila Tribe Society, ensuring we meet our responsibilities as a nonprofit under provincial law, and that our decisions reflect community needs and remain grounded in our Reason for Being.
As of our 2026 Annual General Meeting, our Directors are Brian Wadhams, Hamdzas Jennifer Ambers, Rande Cook, and Seneca Ambers. To contact our Board, please write to info@maamtagila.ca.
Our Staff
For the first five years of our work, the MTS relied entirely on the hard work of volunteers. Thanks to the generous support of the MakeWay Foundation, the MTS was finally able to hire a paid staff member. In 2026, Mayana Slobodian joined the MTS as our first Executive Director.
The Executive Director is responsible for strengthening the Society’s governance through financial transparency and accountability, coordinating community initiatives, and expanding opportunities for Ma’amtagila people to participate in and shape the Society’s work.
